That structure is its essence. For example,9 a cube is never perceived by any particular act of consciousness as six-sided, but when examined by many acts of consciousness, it is impossible to deny that it is of a (permanent) six-sided structure, which is its essence. It was by way of his "phenomenological reduction"l0 that Husserl arrived at pure consciousness and essences, the object-matter of pure consciousness. It seems to me that pure consciousness is intending essences whereby, initially, no commitment is made about the mode of being of the essences.

THE GENERAL SUBJECT MATfER OF HUSSERL'S PHENOMENOLOGY It is very interesting to follow Meinong's probing into the general subject matter of Husserl's phenomenology.!
